Flash Back to “Fix My Frankenhouse”
We having been reminiscing about 2023 and wanted to share a quick flash back to our first season of "Fix My Frankenhouse!" Oh and did you know! HGTV still replays Season 1 and there are a few other platforms that you can stream the episodes from. We are including the details at the bottom of this post sharing where you can catch each episode and when it will be LIVE on HGTV THIS WEEK!! Also, we will walk through each episode below and you can check out some of Denese's favorite images and moments in her designs.
This bathroom image is from our design in Episode 1. Moisture resistance is paramount in any space but ESPECIALLY in a kid's bathroom. Denese wanted to play with the design of the tile (one of her favorite elements to experiment with!) and she implemented boldness even with a simple subway tile. Her goal was to elevate the space to make it interesting and at the same time, have it be a playful, enjoyable, timeless, space for kids to grow.
Here is the kitchen from Episode 2. This homeowner wanted a white kitchen and we were able to give that to them while also creating a warm, calm space. If you peak under the hood vent, we have another great example of playing with tile! Denese used a basic subway tile but elevated it by creating a double basket box weave design. While white is the primary kitchen color, the island has a wood tone to ensure the space doesn't feel sterile and still has warmth. Denese loves this picture because it incorporates several details that may have been missed on the show. These details create a sense of calm in the space. You can see this in the light over the island that has a beautiful texture wrapping around the fixture and the subway tile backsplash.
Our clients in Episode 3 were looking for a white, light and bright kitchen. Prior to the renovation, their kitchen was dark and tiny so they were excited about this big change. In this design, Denese LOVED the banquette. Denese really had the opportunity to think through the fact that these clients are parents and have small kids just like she and Mike do. And what do you need when you have kids? STORAGE! With this dining space being parallel to the kitchen and family room, they could fit toys, blankets, craft items - ANYTHING! in this seat. It felt like a great use of space and a smart way to incorporate storage built into this island. There are so many details in this design that really lend to being a family-friendly space and not compromising the beauty of the design. A few of the smaller details that Denese loved were the tile background and its textural, cobblestone feel, the pop of color on the chairs, the velvet fabric (that is CLEANABLE!) and the blown glass tear drop pendant (when you zoom in, you can see the peppered textures). With Denese's deep knowledge of textiles, she is confident that clients don't have to compromise beauty for function when they have small children. Everything is very thought through from texture to tone to how it feels in the overall space.
The property in Episode 4 had so many different design elements. Even though Denese likes bold design, she also likes places that feel calming with a sense of serenity and peace. She felt that this image really captured a special moment. She could imagine beautiful morning light coming through the window and sitting, thinking through your day ahead with a coffee here. The details really complete this feeling through the swivel chairs and caramel tones that warm the space, as well as, the modern flat cabinets with the unique horizontal pulls.
The project on Episode 5 was really special. We wanted to create a calming space with a lot of color while keeping a cohesive design. Denese loved these chairs! They were original to the space and she was able to reupholster with a beautiful new fabric. While other clients wanted lots of white, this client wanted color and an eclectic design. Denese was able to refine the clients thoughts directly into a unique and personal design.
Denese loves the black, wood slatted wall with the green, round large coat hooks, the pocket door detail and the hardware throughout. Each element comes together seamlessly and compliments each feature. This image truly captures the details in Denese's design. This overflows into the textured runner, the saturated green cabinets, oversized brushed nickel pulls and taupe paint color on the trim.
Denese designs in tiny moments - in vignettes. When she steps back, everything comes together! The vignettes are purposeful to the overall design and we hope you were able to step into these moments through each image. Don't forget!
